NUR 376 Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing

Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing introduces the student to basic practices of promoting mental health through the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of actual or potential behavioral problems, mental health disorders, and comorbid conditions across the life span. The students are taught psychiatric mental health interventions employing a purposeful use of self and a wide range of nursing and other theories. The student continues to apply critical thinking skills and principles of evidence-based practice utilizing steps of the nursing process while providing care for patients with psychosocial/mental health needs. The course teaches students to incorporate principles of holistic care, trauma-informed care, least restrictive treatment, patient safety, and recovery models of care in diverse clinical settings. Three classroom hours and one credit hour of clinical per week (45 clinical and lab hours/semester). Fee: $125.00 laboratory fee.
