Dual Enrollment Students

Dual enrollment is the matriculation of a high school student in one or more specified college courses for which the student will be awarded both high school and college credit. The Dual Enrollment program is a cooperative effort between Cumberland University and various high schools and home school associations. Qualified high school students may accelerate their college education through successful completion of dual enrollment courses; all requirements of both the high school and Cumberland University must be met by students participating in the program. Students must meet all required prerequisites for General Education courses, this information can be found in the University Catalog. Admissions Requirements

  1. Any qualified high school Junior or Senior may apply to Cumberland University for dual enrollment.
  2. Applicants must officially apply to the University and pay the undergraduate application fee.
  3. Applicants must provide an official copy of their current high school transcript.
  4. Applicants must provide an official copy of transcripts from all colleges attended (if applicable).
  5. Applicants must meet the University’s current admission standards with regards to GPA.
  6. Applicants must meet all University application and fee deadlines.
  7. Exception: High school freshmen and sophomores must provide documented ACT cumulative score of 22 with no sub-score lower than 20. High school GPA may not be considered since it is difficult to evaluate, and the body of course work for these students is limited.

General Information

  1. Students accepted to the program may earn a maximum of 24 credit hours through dual enrollment.
  2. Fees for dual enrollment credit hours will be assessed at a predetermined rate determined annually by the University. Please note the fee schedule published each semester in the CU Register.
  3. Dual enrollment students on Cumberland University’s campus will participate in regularly scheduled Cumberland University course sections. Dual enrollment courses taught in area high schools will be scheduled by the hosting institution.
  4. As space permits, accepted dual enrollment students are eligible to enroll into any 100 or 200 level course for which prerequisites have been met, or by recommendation of the high school principal and/or guidance counselor.
  5. Dual enrollment students will register after priority registration or with incoming freshmen.
  6. Grades posted on high school transcripts may be weighted and therefore differ from the grade on the students Cumberland University transcript. Cumberland grades will not be changed to match the high school transcript.
  7. Dual enrollment students who earn a 2.00 or lower GPA or a 0.00 GPA for any semester will be placed on probation. Dual enrollment students on probation may not continue.
Appeals to this policy may be submitted to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
