HIS 300 Civil War America

This course examines the causes, conduct, and consequences of the American Civil War. Major themes include the role of Manifest Destiny and regional differences in producing the war; the military conflict as a vehicle of social and political change; the attempts to restore the Union via Reconstruction; and the ways in which the contested memory of the Civil War continues to influence contemporary issues.
