SOC 316 Magic, Folklore and Culture in Sociological Perspective
This course will examine social scientific theories of folklore, heritage and culture, and explore the role of myth, ritual, folk music, story-telling, symbol and magic in various social systems, forming contemporary superstitions, holiday celebrations, life-cycle ceremonies, and daily activities (often relating to hearth and home, food and family). The course may cover topics lie the lore and heritage of the South in particular, the United States in general, and of select cultures throughout the World.
