NUR 316 Community Health Nursing

This course, which includes a laboratory component, will provide the student with the core knowledge implicit to community health nursing. The knowledge is evidenced based and includes concepts of individual, family, and community as clients. The roles of the community health nurse are explored in keeping with professionalism, integrity, excellence, and accountability to the diverse population that is served. Epidemiology concepts are integral to primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention measures. An overview of health care systems and global health care at local, state, and national levels, including the economic factors of health care, community assessment, and program planning. The student will be expected to demonstrate critical thinking based on their assessments of aggregate data and to demonstrate cultural competence as they relate to diverse populations. Health promotion will be examined at all three levels of care. The use of informatics technology in accessing data, as well as its documentation is explored. The students will be provided opportunities to communicate their findings and to collaborate with those members of the health care team as appropriate.
