Dual Enrollment Students
Dual enrollment is the matriculation of a high school student in one or more specified college courses for which the student will be awarded both high school and college credit. The Dual Enrollment program is a cooperative effort between Cumberland University and various high schools and home school associations. Qualified high school students may accelerate their college education through successful completion of dual enrollment courses; all requirements of both the high school and Cumberland University must be met by students participating in the program. Admissions Requirements
- Any qualified high school Junior or Senior may apply to Cumberland University for dual enrollment.
- Applicants must officially apply to the University and pay the undergraduate application fee.
- Applicants must provide an official copy of their current high school transcript.
- Applicants must provide an official copy of transcripts from all colleges attended (if applicable).
- Applicants must meet the University’s current admission standards with regards to GPA.
- The ACT is required for admission; enrollment in English Composition requires at least an ENG subscore of 17; enrollment in College Algebra requires at least a Math subscore of 22.Home School students need a 21 ACT score for admission.
- Applicants must meet all University application and fee deadlines.
General Information
- Fees for dual enrollment credit hours will be assessed at a predetermined rate set annually by the University. Please note the fee schedule published each semester in the CU Register.
- Dual enrollment students on Cumberland University’s campus will participate in regularly scheduled Cumberland University course sections. Dual enrollment courses taught in area high schools will be scheduled by the hosting institution.
- As space permits, accepted dual enrollment students are eligible to enroll in any 100 or 200 level course for which prerequisites have been met, or, by recommendation of the high school principal and/or guidance counselor.
- Dual enrollment students will register after priority registration or with incoming freshmen. Unless part of the Early College program, high school seniors and juniors may register for no more than twelve (12) credit hours in a given semester. The University is not responsible for ensuring the credits the student is registered for meet the requirements for high school graduation.
- Grades posted on high school transcripts may be weighted, and therefore, differ from the grade on the student's Cumberland University transcript. Cumberland grades will not be changed to match the high school transcript.
- Any dual enrollment student who earns a "D" in a course and/or is placed on probation will not be allowed to continue in the Dual Enrollment program without the high school counselor or principal recommendation.
Appeals to this policy may be submitted to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
