NUR 328 Professional Nursing Foundations & Health Assessment

Professional Nursing Foundations and Health Assessment is designed for the Licensed Practical Nurse pursuing a baccalaureate degree in nursing. The course focuses on validation and enhancement of previously learned skills, concepts, and communication techniques essential for professional nursing practice. Emphasizing the nursing process, evidence-based care, and critical thinking. This course equips students with the foundational knowledge necessary for clinical decision-making and patient-centered care. Students' progress from basic to more complex nursing concepts, including hygiene, mobility, infection control, elimination, cognitive and sensory alterations, perioperative care, rest and sleep, pain management, safety, wound care, oxygenation, perfusion, and end-of-life care. Integrated throughout the course are key topics such as health promotion, disease prevention, nutrition, informatics, cultural competence, spirituality, and gerontology. In the laboratory, students apply theoretical knowledge and develop hands-on competencies in simulated healthcare settings. Performance is assessed through competency-based evaluations, ensuring proficiency in health assessment and fundamental nursing principles, This course lays the groundwork for professional nursing practice by fostering the skills necessary for safe, ethical, and compassionate patient care. (22 clinical/lab hours/semester) Fees: $500.00 testing fee, $50.00 lab fee, $125.00 tote fee (non refundable).
