NUR 361 Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing for LPN to BSN
Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing for LPN to BSN builds on knowledge gained during LPN or PN programs and through practice as a practical nurse. Learning occurs through student participation in didactic, simulated, hospital-based, and community-based experiences. The course introduces the student to professional mental health nursing through the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of actual or potential behavioral problems, mental health disorders, and comorbid conditions across the life span. The students are taught psychiatric mental health interventions employing a purposeful use of self and a wide range of nursing and other theories. The student continues to apply critical thinking skills and principles of evidence-based practice utilizing steps of the nursing process while providing care for patients with psychosocial/mental health needs. This course teaches students to incorporate principles of holistic care, trauma-informed care, least restrictive treatement, patient safety, and recovery models of care in diverse clinical settings.
