History

Mission Statement

The mission of the History program is to help students gain an understanding of what history is and how historians practice it as a discipline; the differences among various peoples and cultures; and the importance of cause and consequence in historical actions, with an ultimate goal for students to be able to analyze the past critically so that they become better-educated citizens in the present and future.

Using primary and secondary source evidence, students will be required to think and write critically and logically about historic events and themes.

Candidates interested in History teacher licensure must complete this program of study and the Secondary Education dual major. Candidates should work with an advisor in History and an advisor in Education early and often to ensure enrollment in the required courses. ED 432, Classroom Management and ED 433, Methods in Education must be taken the semester prior to student teaching.
